8009C

The 73S8009x circuits are transparent electrical interfaces that allow a host processor to communicate with all types of smart cards. A transparent interface implies that an image of each smart card signal is provided by the interface to the host processor and translated to the appropriate digital level. This configuration provides full control to the host of the card management and card activation / deactivation. Additionally, the architecture reduces die size to a minimum, making the 73S8009x circuits the most cost-effective on the market. The 73S8009C implements a DC-DC converter thus requiring a single power supply whose voltage range can be as wide as +2.7V to +6.5V. Additionally, the 73S8009C features built-in power switches, allowing the device to operate either from a +5V USB bus or from a battery/system power supply.

Features

Compliance with key standards:
  • ISO-7816, EMV 4.1
Transparent interface:
  • Host processor drives/reads each smart card signal image directly
  • Automated card emergency detection
Requires two (2) distinct power supplies:
  • +3.3V (2.7V ~ 3.6V)
  • +5.0V (4.75V / 4.85V(2) ~ 6.0V)
VCC card and VDD generation:
  • Selectable Smart Card Voltage 1.8V, 3V or 5V
  • VCC card regulator
  • VDD regulator (+3.3V)
Power Supply and Power Management
  • USB bus power
    - VBUS supply input (+4.4V to +5.5V range)
    - Priority over VBAT (automatic switch to DC-DC converter input)
    - Always ON when VBUS is present

  • Battery power
    - VBAT secondary supply input (+4.0V to +6.5V range)
    - Automatic switch (instead of VBUS) when USB bus-power is disconnected

  • Alternate battery power
    - VPC (+2.7V to +6.5V range) can be used either through a diode or directly when VBUS & VBAT are not used
    - Priority over VBAT (automatic switch to DC-DC converter input)

  • ON/OFF Switch
    - Input for SPST momentary switch to ground
    - Can be replaced by a digital output (controlled from host processor)
