Power Metering, Measurement & Control
Teridian's SOC solutions for power metering have helped fuel the utility industry's migration to solid state metering, while simultaneously driving down costs and improving anti-tampering capabilities. Teridian Power Meter ICs offer the highest level of integration and flexibility in the industry and are ideal for developing low cost, intelligent utility meters for residential and industrial applications.
Teridians patented Single Converter Technology™, precision voltage reference and 32-bit computation engine supports a wide range of residential metering applications with very few low cost external components. For poly-phase metering applications, Teridian leverages the Single Converter Technology™ and above capabilities beyond just how much electricity is used. In addition to enabling an assessment of power efficiency, which is important for industrial applications, poly-phase also provides improved security to detect tampering and/or power theft. Anti-tamper and time-of-use billing, are both key features that are derived from an integrated "real time clock" which enhances value while simultaneously saving on BOM costs. Anti-tampering capabilities are becoming especially important in developing countries, such as China and India, where power usage and power theft are growing rapidly.
Industrial Sensor Measurement and Industrial Automation
By leveraging the flexibility and programmability of Teridian's SOC and Single Converter technology, the same fundamental architecture can be deployed to address a range of other industrial monitoring and control applications. The inherent flexibility of the programmable, multi-channel, mixed signal, SOC architecture also makes it ideal for implementing a variety of other applications. For example, an automated feedback loop can be easily established by connecting inputs from one or more sensors for measuring power, pressure, position, vibration, flow, temperature, or humidity, and connecting the output to a Process Controller, such as a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), a Motion Controller or other control system found commonly in industrial automation systems.
An SOC's internal compute engine also can be programmed to compensate for specific variations in sensor inputs, allowing the system to be optimized for specialized measurements. Additionally, the ETU (Electronic Trip Unit) device can be used in industrial circuit breaker applications protecting industrial manufacturing and packaging equipment, by programming trip threshold and delay attributes and monitoring power transients.
Because the SOCs can be used to take readings from multiple sensors anywhere on a production floor at any given point in time, they can perform as intelligent network attached devices that are ideal for industrial automation in manufacturing and packaging installations, refineries and chemical processing plants, or virtually any other diverse industrial environment.
